Discovering exceptional biodiversity
France’s Parc naturel régional des Volcans d’Auvergne is renowned for its remarkable biodiversity, thanks in particular to pioneering lichens such as Xanthoria parietina, a sign of excellent environmental quality. The area is also home to the yellow gentian, an emblematic plant that grows wild at altitudes of 900 to 1,700 meters and is harvested by “gençanaïres”. Its roots, which are on average 45 years old, are used for their precious properties, measuring up to 1.5 meters and weighing up to 10 kg. These natural riches testify to the exceptional authenticity of the Auvergne volcanic massif.
